La iniciativa fue impulsada principalmente por <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Trina de Moya de V\u00e1squez<\/span><\/span> y la destacada educadora <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Ercilia Pep\u00edn<\/span><\/span>, quienes promovieron la creaci\u00f3n de un <strong data-start=\"352\" data-end=\"384\">Comit\u00e9 Pro-D\u00eda de las Madres.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"721\">La primera celebraci\u00f3n oficial se realiz\u00f3 el <strong data-start=\"516\" data-end=\"538\">30 de mayo de 1926<\/strong> e incluy\u00f3 actos escolares, actividades p\u00fablicas, homenajes y visitas a cementerios para recordar tanto a las madres vivas como a las fallecidas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"1080\">A partir de entonces, qued\u00f3 establecido por ley que la festividad debe celebrarse cada a\u00f1o el <strong data-start=\"815\" data-end=\"841\">\u00faltimo domingo de mayo<\/strong>, tradici\u00f3n que se mantiene hasta la comit\u00e9 tambi\u00e9n adopt\u00f3 s\u00edmbolos especiales: el <strong data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"954\">clavel rojo<\/strong> para honrar a las madres vivas y la <strong data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1010\">azucena o nardo<\/strong> para recordar a las fallecidas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1287\">Adem\u00e1s, <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Trina de Moya de V\u00e1squez<\/span><\/span> escribi\u00f3 el <strong data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1162\">Himno a las Madres<\/strong>, que durante d\u00e9cadas ha sido interpretado en escuelas y actos conmemorativos del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1289\" data-end=\"1618\">Aunque la celebraci\u00f3n dominicana tiene caracter\u00edsticas propias, forma parte de una tradici\u00f3n internacional de homenaje a la maternidad que adquiri\u00f3 gran impulso en el siglo XX, especialmente despu\u00e9s de la oficializaci\u00f3n del D\u00eda de la Madre en <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Estados
