SAN JUAN DE LA MAGUANA, 27 de abril.- Las actividades comerciales, educativas e industriales as\u00ed como el transporte de esta provincia del suroeste de la Rep\u00fablica Dominicana fueron paralizadas este lunes en m\u00e1s de un 90 por ciento acogiendo un llamado que en este sentido hizo el denominado \u00abMovimiento Unidos por el Agua y la Vida\u201d\u00a0 .<\/p>\n

La protesta fue convocada en rechazo a las pretensiones de la empresa GoldQuest Mining<\/span><\/span> de explotar una mina de oro en la loma Los Romeros, donde nacen el r\u00edo San Juan y otras fuentes fluviales vitales para la producci\u00f3n agr\u00edcola del valle de San Juan.<\/p>\n

El peri\u00f3dico LaLupadelSur.com inform\u00f3 que durante la jornada se han registrado quema de neum\u00e1ticos pero no se han\u00a0 reportado hechos graves ni situaciones que lamentar.<\/p>\n

Indic\u00f3 que el paro ha contado con un amplio respaldo popular, en medio de un rechazo generalizado a la actividad minera por sus posibles impactos en los recursos h\u00eddricos y el medio ambiente.<\/p>\n

La huelga fue pautada para concluir a las 6:00 de la ma\u00f1ana de este martes pero sus convocantes no\u00a0 descartan nuevas acciones si no son atendidas sus demandas.<\/p>\n
